Quadrax and twinax contacts are designed for transmission of Ethernet, high speed signal in harsh environments where integrity and reliability are essential. Consisting of an outer shield and either two (twinax) or four (quadrax) inner contacts, the high speed copper contacts can be setup in a number of formats including MIL-DTL-38999, ARINC 600, MIL-DTL-83527 and D-Subminiature.

Equipped with the Hypertac® hyperboloid contact technology the NXS system can withstand data rate application up to 10 Gbps (per channel) requirements, including extreme levels of vibration, shock and climatic testing above 2100 G. The NXS Series is designed in a robust construction with 4 or 12 high speed quadrax (dual-twinax) modules.
The ARINC 801 fiber optic terminus is the next generation of high density, butt joint interconnect technology. With its standard 1.25 mm ferrule and sleeve, the ARINC 801 terminus is designed for both multimode and single-mode applications. For the pull-proof design, the cable jacket is crimped on an external body and a floating mechanism avoids any loss of performance when pulling on the cable. This feature allows for the use of the connector without a backshell. Standard connector formats include MIL-DTL-38999 type, MIL-DTL-83527 type, ARINC 600 and ARINC 781.
We have taken the standard housing configuration of the P1 & P3 mounting dimensions while incorporating true differential pair contacts within the P1 & P3 dimensional constraints. P1 connector housing contains 21 position true differential pair blind mate contacts allowing board designers to carry high density differential pair signals from the LRU via motherboard to daughter-card plug in modules with a single connector P1 type housing.
Rugged DIN style contacts and connectors that are capable of supporting wide bandwidth applications. All fiber optic contacts are offered fully terminated and tested to ensure integrity for rugged environments. Smiths Interconnect also offers a complete line of fiber optic connectors to terminate to the other end of the cables. These include ruggedized single channel (RSC), FC, ST, LC Duplex/Simplex, MTP, MT-RJ and Ruggedized SC connectors. Please consult factory for cabling options.
Expanded Beam Fiber Optic Contact technology is specifically designed to fit into standard size 12 cavities of MIL-DTL-38999 Series I, III and IV connectors. The size 12 contact provides a robust fiber optic interconnection with low susceptibility to contamination and fits a variety of cable types with diameters from 1.6 to 2.2 mm with additional versions available upon request. The contacts are rear release/rear removable with standard size 12 removal tool.
Fibre Channel D-Sub connectors offer high Data rate 6.25 Gbps, high shock and data resistance and high density quadrax. The main function associated with high impedance D-Sub connectors is to ground the outer shield of a quadrax contact directly to the shell of the connector.
High Frequency Coax Contacts offer exceptional RF performance up to 26.5 GHz for Size 8 and 40 GHz for Size 12 contacts in multi-pin connector applications. Engineered with a “float mount” design, these contacts ensure low VSWR at microwave frequencies by preventing air gaps at the mating interface. These contacts are designed to be terminated to .086 diameter flexible cables (RG-405 equivalent).

The MIL-DTL-83527 Rack and Panel style connectors offer high density, high data throughput and robustness. These connectors meet or exceed the applicable requirements of the military specification and come in a wide variety of insert arrangements and shell sizes.

Low coaxial connectors offer full crimp design of center and outer shield, extended crimp barrel for added strain relief in tight bend radial application, extremely low VSWR 1.15:1 up to 18 GHz, moisture resistant sealing, and IP67 compliance in mated pair condition.
The floating pin termini provides exceptional low loss characteristics with high reliability and repeatability. They are designed to fit available formats of standard off the shelf electrical MIL-DTL-38999 eliminating the need for costly tight tolerance and hard to locate D38999/60 & /61 connectors.
MDCX, multipin coax connectors, offer low VSWR of 1.25:1 (typ) up to 10 GHz (max mated pair), maximum overall diameter of 0.125" fitted into low-profile micro-D housing, with constant 50 Ohm airline impedance. MDCX coaxial contacts are compact in size allowing multiple high density connections in a Micro-D style shell for applications where space and weight savings are important. No cumbersome spring mounts are required. These connectors are also available with locking post mechanisms or blindmate hardware attachment.
Spring loaded High Frequency Micro-D Coax Connectors (MDHC) offer low VSWR up to 40 GHz (typ). These connectors have a constant 50 ohm airline impedance interface and are 30% smaller than our SCX coaxial connectors.
Micro quadrax/twinax connectors are available in threaded, quick disconnect, SMA and Micro-D size packages, 25% smaller in diameter than SMA coaxial connectors, controlled impedance with tightly spaced PCB footprint.
Micro-D Twinax Connectors (MDTX) offer Twinax blindmate assemblies fitted into a low-profile metalized Micro-D style shell, high speed signalling capable of 100 Ohm differential pair matched impedance, maximum space utilization, ultra miniature size and high vibration capability, extremely light weight and modular with true signal integrity.

Passive Equalizer contacts operate up to 12.5 GBPS and fits inside a standard Size 8 twinax/quadrax contact cavity for all connector formats. The passive equalizer requires no external power and acts like a high pass filter operating over an extreme temperature range. This compensates for the frequency dependent cable loss and helps to re-open the eye pattern on long cable runs allowing to pass higher data rates, for a given cable length, or extend the length of your cable at existing data rates. Equalization is an important tool in any digital engineers toolkit.

High impedance D-Sub connectors are designed to ground the outer shield of a twinax or quadrax contact directly to the shell of the connector. A multi-finger ground spring fixed around the shell provides a multi-point contact engagement that affords superior EMI shielding. The end result is an extremely low contact resistance when measured from the contact outer body to the connector flange, ensuring minimal RF noise and high durability of over 500 mating cycles.
